Koraput: Congress MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria Tuesday resigned from the Odisha Assembly citing that he had not been able to provide justice to the Kunduli ‘gangrape’ victim.
Speaking to the media, he said, “I have let down the people of my constituency who had trusted me and voted for me. I am respecting their votes and resigning from the MLA post as I have not been able to provide justice to Kunduli gangrape victim.”
“This is a fight for our women, mothers and daughters. A fight for social justice,” he further added.
“I have seen the girl in dream who asks me why I wasn’t able to give justice to her. She was a Dalit and so am I. Thus, using my discretion and a sense of reason, I have decided to resign from the post.”
“I will fight for rights of the poor, Adivasis and Dalits. I will go from village to village telling their stories. On Ambedkar’s death anniversary December 6, I will embark on this new journey from Bhubaneswar,” he concluded.
On October 10 last year, a 14-year-old girl of Kunduli alleged that she was raped by ‘four men in uniform’. She had later committed suicide January 22. The incident had triggered state-wide outrage following which a judicial probe and an SIT probe was ordered.
