Boinda: Police arrested two persons Tuesday in connection with the murder of retired teacher Aniruddha Pradhan at Kadalimunda village near Bansimunda under Kishorenagar police limits in Angul district.
The prime accused has been identified as Manjit Sahu (30) of Jambunali village and his girlfriend Manini Nayak (25), a married woman of Khamar village under Handapa police station limits.
However, two other accused persons are still absconding.
According to police, the two have confessed their crime. The duo admitted that they along with two others killed Aniruddha for money, police said.
The decomposed body of the former teacher with hands and legs tied with rope was recovered from a well in Bansimunda.
The deceased’s son Arindam Pradhan had lodged a complaint with police.
During investigation, police ascertained that Manjit and Manini along with two others killed Aniruddha and dumped the body inside a well.
Manjit and Manini, who were staying at a rented house in Balikuda area impersonating as a married couple, were arrested during a raid conducted by the cops.
During investigation, the duo confessed to have murdered the teacher, police said.
Aniruddha, who was residing at Bansimunda for the last few years had kept all his hard earned money at his house and somehow Manjit came to know about it.
Later Manjit along with Manini and two other accused persons hatched a plan to loot the cash, it Is learnt.
All of them then barged into Aniruddha’s house late night August 11. While they were stealing the money, Aniruddha opposed them following which they stabbed him on his head with a sharp weapon. Aniruddha, who sustained grievous injuries on his head, died on the spot after bleeding profusely, police added.
Later, they tied the hands and legs of the body and dumped it inside the well to conceal their crime.
Efforts are on to nab two other accused persons, said a police official.
