Angul: Two minor brothers who were allegedly set on fire by their mother Sunday night attempted following a quarrel with her neighbour’s children succumbed to the burn injuries Tuesday.
The two brothers were under treatment at Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital where they breathed their last. Meanwhile, the condition of their mother, who also had set herself ablaze is battling for life in SCB.
The shocking incident was reported from Sabalbhanga Kumbhar Sahi under Sadar police limits in Angul district. The woman was identified as Bachani Behera (28), wife of Pabitra Behera.
According to reports, Bachani’s children Rahul (6) and two-year-old Abhimanyu had a quarrel with her neighbour’s children over some issues. This quarrel among the children snowballed into a full-blown spat between the two families.
Bachani was so furiously angered that she came running to her house and locked herself and the two children in a room. Before anybody could sense what was happening, she doused herself and her two kids with kerosene and set all three ablaze.
Seeing the fire, Pabitra and his family members broke open the door and rescued the three.

Bachani’s father-in-law Upendra Behera (72) and mother-in-law Bhabini Behera (70) said, “Bachani has suffered 90 per cent burn while the minor children-Rahul (6) and one-and-a-half years old Abhimanyu had suffered 60 per cent burns.
