Nuapada: Demanding the halt of express trains at Nuapada railway station, the Nuapada district bar association staged a ‘Rail Roko’ agitation at the station here Tuesday morning, disrupting rail services for a while.
Holding banner and shouting slogans, the activists resorted to Rail Roko at the station at around 6 AM today. As a result, a DMU train and the Puri-Gandhidham Express were stranded at the station for a while. The Raipur-Bhawanipatna Express was also delayed following the agitation.
According to sources, the railway station sans the stoppage of Express trains.
The lawyers had decided to stage the Rail Roko at meeting held here Monday. Besides, leaders cutting across party lines and members of various traders’ associations and bus owners’ association joined the protest. The agitation was also supported by locals and other associations of the district.
On receiving information, senior railway officials reached the spot and were pacified the agitators. Later, the agitation was withdrawn after the railway authorities assured to take their demands into consideration.
On the other hand, the agitating lawyers warned that they would continue their stir unless there is a written assurance on stopping of express trains at Nuapada railway station.
