Bhubaneswar: The Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts department has planned to engage designers with the weavers to ensure quality products and boost their demand in the market. The plan would be implemented in Koraput district, said sources.
The department has framed guidelines to engage designers to assist the weavers and handloom workers in Koraput district. As per the plan, looking into the requirement of designs by the weavers, handloom designers passed out from a reputed institute, with minimum experience of two years in Odisha handlooms or a national awardee, would be inducted in the project areas.
The design experts would be entrusted with the task of improvising the designs on the fabrics and would be given a target of preparing 40 new designed fabrics every month. The designer will stay in the project area and work with the weavers on loom to bring out the new designs.
The department has also planned other programmes like weavers’ training, marketing assistance, opening of a Raw Material Bank, engaging weavers into cooperative societies among others.
