New Delhi: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Tuesday donated Rs 20,20,504 to the Prime Minister’s relief fund for upgradation of Ispat general hospital Rourkela into a super specialty hospital.
A delegation led by OPCC chief Niranjan Patnaik handed over the cheque to the Prime Minister’s Office.
While talking to media on the upcoming Assembly elections in the state, the OPCC chief said names of 42 shortlisted candidates will be declared after the elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram. He said the names have been sent to the All India Congress Committee for approval.
Earlier, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had slammed Modi for allegedly reneging on his promise of facilitating construction of a super specialty hospital at Rourkela and announced to raise funds after Muktikanta Biswal walked from Rourkela to Delhi to remind the Prime Minister of his promise.
Muktikanta walked over a 1,000-km to meet Modi to remind him of his promise, but he could not meet him.
Notably, Modi, during his visit to Rourkela April 1, 2015, had announced the Centre would upgrade Ispat General Hospital (IGH) into a super specialty hospital and medical college.
