Nabarangpur: Over 80 quintals of paddy worth lakhs of rupees was reduced to ashes after a major fire broke out in Jhandariguda village of Nabarangpur district Tuesday morning.
Two farmers—Madhu Bhatra and Mangu Bhatra (both siblings) faced heavy losses due to the fire. The hapless farmers demanded necessary compensation.
While no exact reason behind the fire was known, locals suspected some miscreants to have set the paddy on fire over previous rivalry.
As per reports, the blaze originated from the paddy stacks while the villagers were asleep early Tuesday dawn. Both of the brothers owned 40 quintals of paddy each.
After spotting the flames coming out of the paddy stacks the duo immediately informed the fire services personnel.
However, the fire fighters failed to douse the fire as the intensity of the flames was extremely high and in no time it engulfed the entire paddy stacks.
