Bhubaneswar: The Jharkhand Police Tuesday arrested the Vice Chairman of Hi-tech Medical College and Hospital for allegedly duping a student of Rs 5 lakh by falsely promising him admission into MBBS course.
The accused, Tirupathi Choudhary, is one of the relatives of Tirupathi Panigrahi – the Chairman of Hi-tech Medical College and Hospital. He was arrested from his office in Sahid Nagar police limits here.
Sources said the victim, Ramdhar Prateek, gave Rs 5 lakh to a staffer of the educational institution to avail a seat for him at Hi-Tech Medical College in 2013. However, the staffer could not get Prateek a seat in the institution.
Prateek requested the staffer to return his money as he did not get admission. Choudhary was in jail when the staffer took money from Prateek.
Acting on a complaint filed by Prateek, Govindpur police in Dhanbad registered a case (422/13) under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 120(B) of IPC.
Later, Prateek filed a 1 CC case in Dhanbad court regarding this following inaction by the police. The court issued a non-bailable warrant against Choudhary as he failed to appear before it despite repeated summons.
The Jharkhand Police Tuesday arrested Choudhary from his office with the help of Sahid Nagar police. He was presented in court by the Jharkhand Police to take him on remand which the court allowed. Meanwhile, Choudhary’s lawyer said the money was returned to the complainant, but the relevant documents were not produced in the court.
