Aradi: Yet another stretch of the Baitarani river embankment near Muan in Aradi panchayat in Bhadrak district caved in Friday.
Stone-packing of about 100 ft has collapsed into river. The embankment was recently packed with stones while locals alleged that the work was botched up.
A week ago, about 50-ft stretch of the embankment sank into the river in the same area.
After this incident, people of Muan alleged that the embankment has become weak. They stated that boulders were dumped along the embankment without using earth.
Sub-divisional officer of the irrigation department, Bhubananda Mohanty, said that stone packing will be undertaken from the river side. “Boulders are being stocked. Stone packers have not come. Earth will be laid along with stones. The people need not panic,” the officer added.
