Puri: Tension ran high at Kanas Road railway station after a mutilated body of a youth was recovered from the tracks Sunday morning. The matter came to the fore after some passengers spotted the body and alerted the government railway police (GRP) officials. The deceased has been identified as Dhiren Kumar Routray of nearby Jagdalpur village under Delang block in Puri district.
According to reports, Routray had left home last evening over some work. Family members searched for him after he did not return till late night. However, there was no trace of his whereabouts.
The sudden recovery of his body on rail tracks shows it is a case of murder, family members said. Alleging that Routray has been murdered, locals halted the Puri-Cuttack passenger train at Kanas road railway station.
Though we informed the station master about the incident, he remained quiet and did not even bother to intimate the Government Railway Police (GRP), alleged local residents.
Alleging inaction on part of concerned authorities and demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants involved in the killing, locals gathered at the railway station and detained the Puri-Cuttack passenger train.
Train services between Delang and Kanas were disrupted for couple of hours, sources said.
Later, rail roko agitation was suspended after GRP officials rushed to the spot and assured the locals of appropriate action. The agitators relented after the GRP officials assured of immediate arrest of the miscreants behind the gruesome murder.
While no exact reason behind the murder was ascertained, police suspected it to be fallout of previous rivalry. The miscreants killed him elsewhere and later dumped the body on rail tracks to show it as a case of train mishap.
Meanwhile, investigation has started into the incident while the youth’s body has been sent for post mortem.
