Hyderabad: A newborn dumped got a chance at life after a female officer took on the role of his mother, police in Hyderabad, said.
Authorities received a call about the abandoned baby girl, who was covered in blood and likely a few hours old, when he was brought to the police station in the southern Indian city. The child was barely stirring, just hours after his rescue.
A female officer named Priyanka breast-fed the boy once. The female constable decided to breast-feed the baby unable to bear the crying of the baby due to hunger.
“She fed the baby for half an hour, and then the baby let out a big cry. The body was shaking — hands and legs. Everybody got so happy,” said Priyanka.
The female officer, received applauds for her noble job.
“I was so happy. We police officers work so hard, but the last two days in the station was something else. It felt like a baby was born in our home,” she said.
According to reports, Priyanka’s husband M Rabindra is posted at Afjalgang police station. A woman in a drunken state handed over her baby to a man identified as Md Irfan and fled the spot.
With no option left, Irfan brought the baby girl to the local police station and approached Rabindra to trace its mother. However, the baby girl was crying out loud in hunger. So, Rabindra called his wife Priyanka to breast-feed the baby.
Without any second thought, Priyanka breast-feed the baby and took care of her. Later, the police searched the baby’s mother identified as Sabhana and handed her back the baby. She confessed of being drunk and handing over the baby to Irfan in a drunken state.
The police warned her with stringent steps if anything happened to the baby in future before letting her go. Meanwhile, the generous act of Priyanka has won accolades on social media platform after the news went viral.
