Kabisuryanagar: A hooch trader, who was critically injured in an attack by masked miscreants, succumbed to his injuries at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur Monday.
The deceased was identified as Kabir Sethi. His body was taken back to his native village Athagarhpatna after police conducted a post-mortem. A case was registered and a manhunt was launched to arrest the absconding assailants.
According to sources, the incident occurred when three masked miscreants refused to pay after drinking liquor from his shop December 24, leading to an altercation between them. The situation escalated and the youths attacked Sethi, leaving him fatally wounded.
Family members took him back home after administering him treatment at the Kabisuryanagar hospital. They again rushed him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital after he complained of uneasiness December 26. Sethi did not respond to treatment and died.
