Bhubaneswar: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi brushed aside speculation of his possibility of contesting from Puri Lok Sabha constituency in 2019 as a “media creation”, senior BJP leader Pradip Purohit Wednesday claimed there is 90 per cent chance that the PM may contest from that seat.
“One cannot rule out the possibility of Modi contesting from the seaside town,” Purohit told reporters.
Before launching his campaign in 2014, Modi visited Puri and he came to the Holy city again to seek Lord Jagannath’s blessings after his election.
Be it Railways or any other sector, he has given the maximum focus to Odisha which is an integral part of the Centre’s ‘look east’ policy, said Purohit.
“The PM contested from Varanasi, a prominent pilgrim centre. Puri is also a religious destination which the PM loves,” he said. However, the BJP Parliamentary Board will take a final call on the matter, he added.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Puri district president Prabhanjan Mohapatra said, “Modiji may contest from Puri as our party’s central office has been collecting day to day reports on the four assembly segments of Puri past 10 pm everyday.”
