Bhubaneswar: Around five minor boys escaped from a city-based shelter home here, police said Thursday.
The incident took place Monday night when the children broke the grille of the bathroom and escaped, they said.
The shelter home authorities have lodged a complaint with the Lingaraj police in this regard.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a search operation to trace the missing children.
They also interrogated the officials of the shelter home regarding security arrangements at the home.
However, the children have evaded CCTV cameras and 24hour security while fleeing.
It may be mentioned here that May 1, 2017, 11 children from the same shelter home escaped by breaking open two ventilators of the bathroom.
Meanwhile, one of the former members of the Management Committee of the Open Shelter told Orissa POST, “Some of the boys who escaped from the shelter home were held by the police for involvement in some unlawful activities. They, children in conflict with law (CCL), have always had a tendency to get rid of discipline. They latch on to a slightest of opportunity to escape. The police officials in order to avoid ferrying the CCL to government-run Juvenile Detention Home or Observation home at Berhampur at regular intervals are keeping such juveniles at the Open Shelter here.”
