Malkangiri: Saberi Visdyavaban School at MV-79 in Malkangiri district was established in 1976, during the Dandakaranya Project, where more than 500 students are studying at present.
However, the school doesn’t have enough classrooms; whatever it has are in dilapidated condition. Students were seen studying on school veranda as there are six classrooms for more than 500 students, said parents.
The school that has one room each for computer and Sanskrit classes and 12 teachers needs a new building, the parents said. What’s noteworthy is even though the then rural development officer had announced the school was in a dilapidated condition, a new building has not been built so far. The parents further alleged their children are afraid of going to school as the ceiling had collapsed during class hours in recent past.
The residents have filed complaints with the District Education Officer, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan project director and the district collector several times, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, the villagers have demanded a new school building.
