Dasmantpur: Inmates of Dasmantpur girls’ hostel are forced to sleep on the floor during winter while the average mercury level is below 15 degree. The hostel lacks in basic facilities.
The 110-bed hostel was established at Dasmantpur in Kopraut distict August, 2018, however, the hostel authorities are yet to provide basic facilities to the inmates. The hostel does not have a boundary wall thus making it the hub for antisocial elements and sometimes it becomes an open bar.
As inmates feel unsafe here, some inmates of the hostel didn’t return to it even after the hostel was reopened January 2, after the winter vacation.
Among 110 inmates, only 56 have come to the hostel after the winter vacation till Tuesday. The hostel authorities have also shown little interest in bringing them back.
Apart from this, the inmates also alleged that the hostel was providing low quality food to them. Due to lack of basic facilities and adequate safety in the hostel, the girls don’t show interest to come to the hostel again, informed some inmates. They also alleged that the authorities are forcing them into cleaning dishes used for cooking.
Meanwhile, inmates of the hostel have threatened to leave hostel forever if proper safety and basic facilities are not provided to them. While contacted, headmaster Swapneswar Nayak said the government has not provided beds for the inmates yet.
The hostel gets Rs 800 per student with which it is hard to manage. I have been running the hostel in debt, Nayak added. On the other hand, WEO Harishchandra Chottara promised to take actions if irregularities are found.
