Bhubaneswar: The Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma Thursday indicated that the Commissionerate of Police has been instructed to prepare a proposal on creation of an urban police district keeping in view of the increasing challenges in tackling law and order problems in the rapidly expanding Capital city.
Earlier, Sharma reviewed the ceremonial parade organized to mark the 11th raising day of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police, at the 7th OSAP Battalion ground Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma said, “Keeping in view the manner in which Bhubaneswar city is expanding in terms of its population growth, healthcare, education, commerce and transportation, another police district has become a necessity now. Deliberations in this regard have already begun in the Commissiionerate Police and it will soon come up with a proposal to create an urban police district.
Similarly, another police district is the need of the hour to provide better policing in the Capital city. We will soon despatch the proposal to the government for consideration.”
“Some areas under certain police limits, like Khandgairi police station, have become very large over the years so the proposal of creating a new police district will also include jurisdictional reorganisation,” he added.
Several police officers were awarded on the occasion for their exemplary services in the Commissionerate Police.
Inspector in-charge of Chandrsekharpur police station, Deepak Mishra, was the awarded as the best inspector in the city for 2018.
