Bhubaneswar: The SDJM Court Sunday sent the arrested Jyoti Ranjan Beura alias Golden Baba, to judicial custody again after the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the state crime branch produced him after the end of one-day remand.
Earlier, the court Friday allowed the EOW to take Beura on remand for enquiring various financial frauds committed by him.
According to sources, Beura was also running a cow smuggling racket in the city. Earlier, the Commissionerate Police (CP) officials confirmed his involvement in real estate frauds and shoddy land dealings. Beura also reportedly duped many girls into flesh trade by falsely promising roles in Odia movies.
Notably, Chandrasekharpur police arrested Golden Baba December 31 in a fraud case to the tune of Rs 12-crore. Cases were registered on the complaint filed by a prominent mining businessman from Baripada. Later, the police also found out three other cases of financial frauds pending against Beura. A person from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh has also filed a complaint against him.
Police during a two-day remand of Beura has unearthed unaccounted properties worth several lakhs from his locker at a private financial firm. Later, the EOW on the requests of CP took the charge of the probe.
Police sources claimed that the CP will again take Beura on remand for further interrogation.
