G. Udayagiri: A day after a 14-year-old girl gave birth in a government-run tribal residential school in Kandhamal district, a 21-year-old youth was arrested on charges of impregnating a minor girl on the pretext of marriage at Nuasahi under G. Udayagiri police limits area, Monday.
The matter came to the fore after the mother of the victim lodged a complaint with the G.Udayagiri police when she found out that her daughter was four months pregnant.
G. Udayagiri police arrested the youth Alfans Nayak alias Riku after registering a case under Sections 376 (2) and 376 (3) of IPC and Section 6 of POCSO Act against him.
Sources said the accused was in love with the minor girl of the same locality and had been maintaining physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage. When the minor girl became pregnant, Riku started avoiding her.
The girl narrated her affair to her family members, who discussed it with the youth’s family for an amicable solution. Later a meeting was arranged between the two families to sort out the issue but it was inconclusive. Then the girl’s family lodged a complaint at G. Udayagiri police station.
“That boy lured my innocent daughter in the name of love and raped her. No one knew of it, and my daughter did not reveal it to me out of fear and shame. But when I found out that she was four months pregnant, she mustered her courage and told me. I have complained against the accused boy and want justice for my minor daughter,” cried her helpless mother.
The victim is a student of Class 10, studying in a government school in G. Udayagiri. The girl has been sent to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Phulbani for a medical examination. A further investigation is going on, police sources said.
