Baripada: A 30-year-old woman was axed to death by her brother-in-law at Pakatia village under Jharpokharia block in Mayurbhanj district following a dispute late Sunday night.
The accused was identified as Jagannath Nayak, brother-in-law of the deceased Sukadebi Nayak. The matter came to the light after Nayak surrendered before the police Monday morning.
According to sources, Sukadebi and her brother-in-law had frequent quarrels over money.
Nayak was cutting chicken for dinner Sunday night when Sukadebi confronted him about money that he had earned by selling paddy. Things took an ugly turn after an argument ensued between the two over money. In a rage, Jagannath attacked the woman with an axe killing her on the spot.
The accused was arrested and a case was registered against him under relevant Sections of the IPC.
