Bhubaneswar: A 43-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her residence in Nirankari Nagar slum of Salia Sahi under Nayapalli police limits here Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jasobanti Behera of Kapaleswar under Raghunathpur police station limits in Jagatsighpur. Jasobanti married Trinath Behera of Nayagarh around 20 years ago. She was a teacher in a school at Mahavir Nagar in Salia Sahi which is owned by Trinath.
Sources said that after repeated knockings at the woman’s door went unanswered, the locals grew apprehensive and informed the former’s husband. The husband along with the locals broke the door open to find the quadragenarian lying dead.
The couple has two children.
However, the locals claimed that the couple had not been on good terms for the past several months and frequent altercations broke out as Trinath suspected that Jasobanti was cheating on him. Locals alleged that the husband has killed Jasobanti over trust issues.
Police upon reaching the spot sent the body for post-mortem and detained Trinath. Later, Trinath was released as Jasobanti’s parents did not file any complaint against him.
The inspector in-charge of Nayapalli Police station, Umakanta Pradhan, said, “Following the complaint by the women members of a SHG group we started the probe. However, we failed to get any fact corroborating the allegations made by the slum dwellers.” Pradhan added she “committed suicide” by hanging herself with a scarf wrapped around her neck from the ceiling fan. Jasobanti had a feud with her husband in the morning over some petty family matter and in a fit of anger she took the extreme step few hours later, Pradhan said and added that a case (13/19) of unnatural death was registered.
