BHUBANESWAR: Bimohana Creative, the premier cultural institution of the state, organised the third edition of Bimohana Kala Samman at Bhanja kala mandap in Bhubaneswar, Tuesday.
The Festival is directed by Rashmi Ranjan Barik and conducted by members of the organisation.
Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananata Narayan Jena, Odissi vocal exponent Ramahari Das, eminent Odissi dancer Nabakishore Mishra, chief executive, GKCMORC Bhubaneswar, Sangita Gasain and social activist Meera Parida graced the occasion.
Eminent Odissi dancer and choreographer Guru Ratikant Mohapatra will be awarded as third Bimohana kala Samman 2019.
Rashmi Ranjan Barik, organiser of the event, said, “I organised this event to showcase the cultural tradition of the state which is dying. I started learning dance at a tender age.”
“Hence, I took it as my responsibility to organise the event to enhance and encourage the traditional blend of the state,” he said. Barik learnt dance at Odisha Dance Academy and Rudraksh Foundation as a solo and group performer and choreographer. He added, “We prefer participants who perform solo dance for better judgment of quality.”
Rashmi Ranjan has taken his art to many places in India and abroad (USA, UAE, China). Having acquired an M.Phill degree in Odissi Classical Dance at Utkal University of Culture, he continues to stay committed to the propagation of Odia art and culture.
A solo dancer said, “This is a great platform where we can showcase our talent in the most effective manner. We not only dance but learn new things by conversing with Odissi dancers.”
Guru Dhaneswar Swain, Sitakanta Jena and Rohita Pradhan give their heartiest tribute to late Guru Banamali Maharana through Maradala, Mrudanga and Jugal Bandi. The electric performances enthralled all at the event.
Solo dances were performed by Mamata Das and Prashaanta Kumar Sahoo. Both of these dancers are from Bhubaneswar. This was followed by a group dance performed by Rojalin Mohapatra and Group, Bhubaneswar.
Goel Gita Sahoo from Nrutya Upasana Pitha and Punya Pani from Swakiya Foundation also performed at the event.
Nayika Nialpadma (solo), Prajakta Panda Srijan (solo), Asutosh Parida from Nrutya Naivedya (solo), Rosy Swain from Rudrakshya Foundation (solo), Tejaswini Pallai and Bhagirathi Shahi from Odissi Research Centre (duet), Puspa Panda from Gunjan Dance Academy (solo) mesmerised the audience with their flawless performances.
