Bhubaneswar: A Bhubaneswar-bound AirAsian flight from Bangkok was diverted to Kolkata late Tuesday night owing to dense fog in the city.
The flight, FD 112, with over 150 passengers onboard was scheduled to land at Biju Patnaik International Airport at 11:55 pm Tuesday. With dense fog conditions prevailing in the city and its surroundings, the aircraft was not allowed to land here, following which it was diverted to Kolkata.
The passengers had a harrowing experience at Netaji Subash Chandra Bose airport in Kolkata where they were asked to sit inside the aircraft for a couple of hours without basic amenities, said the sources.
Informing the media about their ordeal, the irate passengers alleged that the flight crew, who did not confirm about their flight to Bhubaneswar, paid no heed to serving them food. Passengers of the AirAsia flight reportedly had to remain without food for more than 12 hours, said the sources. In Kolkata airport, the passengers were asked to remain seated inside the plane for about 12 hours. The airline crew then asked the passengers to move to the lounge of the airport to wait for the flight till weather improves in Bhubaneswar.
