India is full of mysterious findings and one such alluring talisman is a tree which laughs when touched or tickled.
In the woods of Uttarakhand’s Kaladungi forest in Nainital district locals claim that there is a tree displaying very unusual behavior. I is said whoever rubs finger in its stem, the tree laughs.
According to reports, the Forest Department has no official information about it but locals call it the ’laughing tree’. You ought to be amazed but it is true.
In Kaladungi it is known as Thanella and its botanical name is ‘Rendia doctorum’. It grows at an altitude of 300 to 1300 meters.
On the other hand, the Corbett Village Development Committee has decided to further popularise the trees by allowing tourist to touch and see the reactions of the ‘laughing tree’.
