New Delhi: The Lok Sabha Wednesday mourned the death of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP from Aska, Ladu Kishore Swain, who died at the age of 71 in a private hospital at Bhubaneswar.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who read out the obituary reference in the House, said, “Ladu Kishore Swain was an agriculturist and social activist. He worked for the welfare of backward castes. He was the member of the Committee on Rural Development and Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes. Swain died in the early hours of February 6. We express our condolences over the demise of our friend.”
The House was adjourned after paying homage to Swain, to meet again Thursday.
Biju Janata Dal MPs from both Houses also condoled the death of Swain at the Parliamentary party office here. Terming the demise of Swain as great loss, BJD MP Prasanna Acharya said, “Our colleague Ladu Kishore Swain’s sudden demise is a sad news for all of us. He was a gentleman and a very polite person… He was an active parliamentarian and a staunch supporter of Biju Patnaik.”
Swain is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter, his family sources said, adding he was suffering from kidney ailments and breathed his last in the small hours of Wednesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and a host of dignitaries expressed their condolences with Swain’s bereaved family.
The CM in his message described Swain as an able parliamentarian who had also served as a member of the state legislature.
