Baripada: Even as healthcare is allegedly in a shambles in remote pockets of Maryurbhanj district, a 39-year old Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital at Baripada has been given a short shrift.
The government has forgotten its promise to take over the medial collage and hospital.
Reports said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has visited Baripada January 30 and made four major announcements. It was assured that the government will consider the takeover of the homeopathic medical college and hospital, said the old alumni association of the college.
Members of alumni association Dr Sisit Kumar Giri, Dr Uttam Kumar Das, Dr Nayan Kumar Kar, Dr Saroj Kumar Nath, Dr Mukesh Kumar Mishra and Dr Shaktimayee Giri had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the administration, seeking government takeover of the institution.
It was in 1980 that efforts were made to set up this medical college and hospital by some activists and homeopathy lovers to cater to the healthcare needs of people in the tribal-dominated district. It was founded by Dr Gourachandra Giri as a private clinic at his residence in Baghada Road. It was later shifted to Pandey ME school and then functioned at the district headquarters hospital. Now, it is located at Manchabandha.
It was recognized by the state government and the North Odisha University. The hospital has its own land, building and other facilities. Many patients come to the medical college and hospital. Locals and alumni alleged that the medical college faces a lot of issues in the matter of management. The government takeover will sort out issues
The Collector is the president of the management committee on the hospital.
The alumni association recalled the promise of Chief Minister. It said, “Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had visited Baripada December 11, 2013. Then he had also assured that the government will take over the management of the college. But he has forgotten it.”
The association demanded quick steps by the government in this regard.
