Puri : Massive irregularities have been alleged in the procurement of sports kits for Samanta Chandra Sekhar Autonomous (SCS) College here in the city.
As per allegations, financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 10 lakh have been made in the procurement of sports kits for SCS College. Besides, there were certain irregularities in the tender process for procurement of sports equipment.
Insiders, meanwhile, blamed a former principal of the college, a senior lecturer and a clerk for the irregularities.
According to sources, SCS College authorities had invited tenders for the supply of sports kits for students, last year. The college authorities had issued a notice in this regard in a particular newspaper.
The authorities concerned had selected two firms, one from Cuttack and another from Bhubaneswar, to supply sports equipment worth Rs 20 lakh. The authorities did not even consult the physical education teacher (PET) of the college while selecting the two firms, sources said.
It has been alleged that the two firms had supplied poor quality sports kits to the college. However, the authorities concerned had written to the district sports officer Narayan Behera urging him to certify that the sports equipment procured from the two firms were of good quality.
Behera, however, refused to certify the sports equipment. “They had not consulted me while procuring the sports kits of SCS College. So, I refused to certify the equipment,” he said.
When contacted, PET Ranjit Mishra said no one has consulted him for the procurement of sports kits for the college. “I have nothing to say on the issue,” he added.
Principal Prafulla Mohanty said they would launch a probe into the issue. “I had assumed office February 1. I have no knowledge on the sports kits issue,” he added.
