Mohammad Azharuddin said Virat Kohli is the ‘Boy Wonder’ of modern cricket and lauded the India captain for his stunning form.
Kohli finished 2018 as the highest scorer in Tests and ODIs and many experts believe he will go on to break most of Sachin Tendulkar’s batting records.
Last year, Kohli amassed 1322 runs in Tests and 1202 runs in ODIs. Overall, he hit 11 international hundreds in 2018.
In South Africa, Virat Kohli smashed a record-breaking 871 runs across formats before scoring nearly 600 runs in five Tests in tough conditions in England.
Kohli is ranked No 1 in the ICC rankings for batsmen in Tests as well as ODIs.
“You can see Virat’s performances and statistics are all in front of you. His numbers, his consistency is second only to Don Bradman I feel,” Azharuddin said at an event.
When asked if Kohli is the ‘Boy Wonder’ of world cricket, Azhar said without any hesitation, he indeed was.
“Yes definitely. He will improve further in the future and play even better. He will go on to break more records because age is also on his side,” Azhar said.
Azharuddin said India will soon be able to finalise their World Cup squad but said they would need four good pacers to exploit the conditions in England.
