Tihidi: A section of sarpanchs and samiti members have been staging a dharna near the Tihidi block office in Bhadrak since Monday, alleging that the local administration has been neglecting the Kaalia and Peetha programmes of the state government.
As the protest entered the second day Tuesday, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) termed the stir as ‘undemocratic’.
Addressing a press meeting at the party office Tuesday, local BJD leaders said that a section of people’s representatives have started dharna because their petty personal interests have been hampered.
The ruling party leaders made it clear that the PEETHA Yojna aims at making people aware of various welfare schemes of the state government.
Some sarpanchs had spoken against the state government and praised the programmes launched by the Central government. The agitating sarpanchs had even embarrassed the local MLA at a meeting, BJD leaders added.
