Nuagaon: In a shocking incident, a man was reportedly hacked to death by miscreants over previous enmity at Sorada village under this block in Nayagarh district, Wednesday night.
The incident occurred while the deceased was about to enter his house after taking a bus home after work. He has been identified as Krushnachandra Rout (48). He was working as the cook in a hotel at Dasapalla area.
While no exact reason has been known of the brutal murder, family members claimed it to be fallout of land dispute and previous enmity.
Based on a complaint by the deceased’s family members, Nuagaon police detained their neighbour Biswanath Sahoo (45) for interrogation.
According to police, Rout as usual had gone for work Wednesday. Later, he took a bus home and alighted in front of his house.
Even as his two wives Sanju-Manju (both sisters) and a daughter were waiting for his arrival, he did not reach home. Assuming he might not come home, they had their food and went to bed.
Later, Manju woke up and went outside only to find Rout’s body lying out the house. She then woke up her neighbours and other villagers who alerted the cops.
Family members said, a rift prevailed between Rout and his neighbour Sahu over a land dispute. On several occasions, Sahu had threatened to eliminate Rout.
“We suspect, he killed my husband over the previous enmity. We want him and his family to be arrested soon,” Rout’s wife said.
The body was seized and sent for autopsy to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital (DHH) while a further probe was on.
