Bhubaneswar: Hockey Odisha advanced into the semifinals of the IXth Hockey India National Junior Men’s Championship (Division-A) after scraping past Hockey Gangpur, Odisha 3-2 in a quarterfinal match at Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Monday.
Hockey Odisha dominated from the start having scored their first goal in the ninth minute through Ajay Ekka. In the second quarter of the match, Hockey Odisha scored two goals through Pradeep Lakra (20th, 28th) while Sudeep Chirmako (25th) scored for Hockey Gangpur.
With a comfortable 3-1 lead at half-time, Hockey Odisha did well to defend their scoreline. Puran Kerketta (40th) scored for the opponents in the third quarter. But they could not match Hockey Odisha nor could they score in the fourth quarter.
CDCA election
Vivek Kumar Tibarwal was elected Sunday as the president of the Cuttack District Chess Association (CDCA) here. Ranjan Mohanty has been selected as the secretary of the association. Ch. Pradyumna Keshari Mishra managed the election as the observer.
