Bhubaneswar: Unidentified miscreants looted cash and other valuables worth over `8 lakh from a house at Kanan Vihar, Phase-I in Patia area here late Tuesday night.
According to sources, one of the miscreants broke into the house at around 2.30am by cutting open the window grilles with a gas cutter. Later, he opened the front door and helped his other associates to enter.
The miscreants tied up the family members and gagged them by holding a six-month-old at knife-point. The miscreants then looted jewellery worth `7 lakh, cash and mobile phones. They stayed in the house for more than an hour.
The owner of the house, Amit Das, a faculty at the National Institute of Fashion Technology here, has lodged a complaint with the police and investigation has started. Bhubaneswar deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Anup Sahu also visited the house personally to take stock of the situation.
