Jajpur: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday inaugurated the first rural campus of the state’s premier Utkal University at Chandikhole during his visit to Jajpur district. The CM dedicated it to the people of the state through digital launching in presence of Utkal University Vice-Chancellor Soumendra Mohan Patnaik.
He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various development projects worth Rs 152.49crore during his visit.
Two programmes— Masters degree in Public Health and MBA in Rural Management — will start from the rural campus. The classes will be commenced from its temporary campus at Baba Bhairabananda College near the demarcated site for the permanent campus.

With the inauguration of the campus, the university will start classes from this academic session. Official sources said that the courses will be offered in the second campus keeping the need of industries in the mineral-rich Jajpur district in mind.
The state government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore for the rural campus. A technology park will be set up on the premises to develop indigenous technology at the second campus.

The government had demarcated 66.3 acres near Baba Bhairabananda College at Chandikhol. The land possession was delayed due to some litigation. Later, the foundation stone of the second campus was laid by the higher education minister Ananta Das July 31 in 2017.
In his address, the CM said, “It is a matter of immense pleasure that the rural campus of Utkal University was inaugurated. It will make the Platinum Jubilee of Utkal University more memorable. My motto is your prosperity.”
Besides, the CM inaugurated various projects: A high level bridge over Badagenguti river along Badachana-Balichandrapur road stretch; high level bridge over Sanagenguti river along Sukdeipur-Tihakaranda road stretch; 100-seated ST & SC hostel for Baishimouza Dhananjay Bidyapitha and Freedom Fighter Memorial at Badachana.
He laid the foundations stones for improvement of Bandalo-Endarapada road; improvement of Lalitgiri-Udaygiri-Ratnagiri road; conservation of Sanagenguti river embankment; Balichandrapur grid sub-station and high level bridge over Sanagenguti river along Bhubanpur-Jagannathpur road and other projects.
