Jaleswar, Dec 14: At a time when the CBI has intensified its probe into the multi-crore chit fund scam in the state, a major fire broke out in the building of ponzi firm Green Ray International Ltd’s headquarters here in Balasore district Sunday.
Significantly, it is for the second time that a fire broke out in the same
building. The incident took place at 1.20 pm, in which vital documents, records and computers of the firm were reduced to ashes.
Scores of depositors, who are keeping their fingers crossed to get back their money as the CBI tightens its noose around the fraudsters, suspect that the second-time fire in the building could be an inside job by the company to thwart the premier investigating agency’s bid to gather vital clues about its wrongdoings. They demanded that oft-repeated fire in the headquarters building of the chit fund firm be brought under the purview of CBI investigations.
October 12, the building was in flames at about 11 am. Police had swung into action and caught two minor boys during a search operation. They were produced in a court. However, the police are yet to lay hand on the mastermind of the fire, which has raised suspicion on their efficiency and transparency.
Locals alleged that due to laxity on the part of the police, the fire occurred for a second time, leaving significant evidence perished.
On information, fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames in the building after a three hour-long firefighting. Eye witnesses claimed two minor boys were seen running away from the building after the fire broke out, but the police did not detain them.
Green Ray International Ltd is among the 44 ponzi firms which are under the purview of the CBI probe. Locals said the fire was nothing but an attempt to destroy all vestiges of evidence about the financial wrongdoings, because several administrative officials, police, doctors, political leaders and media persons are involved in the fraud running into crores of rupees.
