New York: The United States handed over Monday to Indian authorities a man who is one of the main accused in the plot to kill film director and producer Mahesh Bhatt in 2014. He is also said to be involved in the firing on filmmaker Karim Morani, which happened in the same year.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said in a press release that Ubaidullah Abdulrashid Radiowala, 46, also known as Obed Radiowala has been handed over to Indian security personnel and has been deported to India.
“He was wanted in India on charges of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, extortion, forgery, cheating, theft, abetment, use and possession of illegal firearms, and transmission of information by using the internet to form an organised crime syndicate. So he is being deported to India,” said the release.
It also said that Radiowala had been arrested in 2017 for illegally staying in the US by Newark’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) department. Earlier in 2015 an Interpol Red Corner notice was issued against Rediowala on the request of the CBI. Radiowala was held in detention till the time of the dismissal off his appeal by the Board of Immigartion Appeals (BIA), the release added.
“This individual’s long list of criminal charges in his home country, including attempted murder, show that he was a danger to the community here in the US,” ERO Newark field office director John Tsoukaris, who was handling the case, said Tuesday.
