Baripada: Hemasmita Naik has all along been the cynosure of political observers and local people’s eyes here since she filed her nomination papers as an independent candidate from Morada Assembly seat under Mayurbhanj Lok Sabha constituency Monday.
A 26 year old graduate from Baripada college, Hemasmita is the youngest candidate to contest elections here. A resident of Andharisola village of Fania panchayat under Morada constituency, her father Chandaneswar Naik is currently serving as a cluster resource center coordinator (CRCC) at Kanimahuli sector and her mother Kumudini a housewife.
When asked what has prompted her to take on politicians, she answered, “Elections are taking place every five years. But the fate of those living below poverty line has not changed for the better as yet. Government helps continues to evade them. The plight they suffer has really pained me and hence I have decided to fight the elections. If I win, I will definitely help in improving their conditions.
Hemasmita has associated herself with the self-help groups of village artisans who are earning their livelihood by making and selling golden brass artifacts. She herself is a golden brass artisan.
It must be stated here that she had fought in the last three-tier panchayat elections in Mayurbhanj District’s Zilla Parishad as an independent candidate. She stood third with securing 7, 775 votes.
The Morada seat is unreserved this year.
