Bhubaneswar: The office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Bhubaneswar Friday notified that there has been 72 percent polling in the state in the second phase of the general elections.
Voting was held for five Lok Sabha and 35 Assembly constituencies under them Thursday in this phase.
While polling took place across 9117 booths, six booths were left out due to EVM glitches. Repoll would be held in these booths. The voting was largely peaceful and smooth though reports of minor brawls and EVM glitches emerged from several booths – especially during initial hours of polling.
Maoists shot down a polling coordinator in Kandhamal Thursday. However, that didn’t stop locals from thronging to booths. Glorious tales of dedication by polling officials emerged from the district where officials braved Maoist threats to ensure a free and fair election.
