Bhubaneswar: Polling for Patkura Assembly Constituency, which was adjourned following the death of a candidate from Biju Janta Dal (BJD), will be conducted May 19.
Issuing a notification, the Election Commission (EC) has said May 1 will be the last date for making nominations while the following day is set as the last date of scrutiny of notifications. The EC further ordered that May 4 will be the last date of withdrawal of nominations by candidates. While the voting hours have been fixed between 7 am and 6 pm, the poll panel has stated that May 27 will be the deadline before which the election process should be completed.
Election to the Patkura assembly seat (96), under Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency, was scheduled to be held in the fourth phase of elections – April 29. However, polling was adjourned April 20 following the death of the BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwal who was ailing for some time.
Subsequently after the demise, the returning officer for the Assembly constituency adjourned the election in accordance with the provisions of sub section (2) of the Section 52 of Representation of People’s Act, 1951.
