Bant: Hundreds of heavy vehicles like haiwa loaded with sand, stone chips and crushed metals are passing through the Agarpada market area of Bhadrak district every day and night.
In the absence of any restrictions from the district administration on the entry of heavy vehicles, they are moving unhindered causing traffic jams in the locality. They also pose a threat to the life and property of commuters.
Overloaded heavy vehicles coming from Ambua sand ghat of Baitarani in Keonjhar and Beleswarpur, Jaleswarpur, Anandapur ghats are passing through this route. Similarly, heavy vehicles loaded with stone chips and crushed metals from Kupari area of Balasore district also move through Agarpada.
These overloaded vehicles often cause road accidents. Last year, police station in-charge of Agarpada, Manas Kumar Deo decided to focus on traffic issues in the area as well as to stop the movement of heavy vehicles during school hours.
However, restrictions imposed by then In-charge were observed only for a few months. Afterwards none bothered about it. A few months back, local people had requested the police to restrict movement of heavy vehicles during school hours, but all went in vain.
