Bhadrak: Violent incidents were reported in some areas of Bhadrak after poll results were out. However, residents of Malasahi under Bant block here have accused the police of inaction against some ruling party leaders who were involved in the violence in their area.
Sources said over 50 men and women staged a dharna near Bant police station till Saturday midnight alleging that though they had reported about incidents of violence occurring in their area but the police did not take it seriously.
Dhamnagar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Manoranjan Samal reached the police station and tried to convince the agitating people. Samal assured them of a thorough probe and promised that action will be taken against the guilty.
The villagers relented in the wee hours after the SDPO’s assurance that a case will be registered.
It may be noted here that some ruling party workers had allegedly made some objectionable comments and gestures at a differently-abled daughter of a former sarpanch.
It was also alleged that she was threatened to be run over by a vehicle. The ruling party workers had also allegedly attacked four to five women. When others opposed such attacks, they were also attacked. Some villagers and former sarpanch had filed a complaint at the police station but the cops had not registered any case.
Meanwhile, after much resistance and protest the cops have registered two cases and started an investigation.
