Berhampur: A signature campaign was held in front of Khallikote University (formerly Khallikote College) in Berhampur on the occasion of ‘World Day Against Child Labour’, Wednesday.
The signature campaign, which was organised by Childline working under the Indian Society for Rural Development (ISRD), was attended by MP Chandrasekhar Sahu, who was also the chief guest, MLA Bikram Kumar Panda and Ex-MLA Dr Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik—the guests of honour. Chairman of the Berhampur Development Authority (BDA), Subash Maharana, ISRD Associate Director Prabhu Prasad Patra and Sakhi Kendra Administrator Mahasweta Padhi were also present at the event.
The theme for this year was ‘Children Shouldn’t Work in Fields, but on Dreams’.
The signature campaign was managed by the Coordinator of Berhampur Childline and the Railway Child Assistance Centre, Sai Prasad Samal and Bairagi Patra, respectively.
Child labour is the exploitation of children through any form of work that deprives them of their rights, interferes with their ability to attend school, and is mentally, physically, socially or morally harmful.
