Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has plans to take up massive plantation programme for the beautification of Berhampur city area. Moreover, this drive will add on to make the city greener and cleaner and check air-pollution.
According to reports, the detailed programme for massive plantation was chalked out Wednesday in a special meeting convened for the purpose at conference hall of BeMC, presided over by Vijay Amruta Kulange, the Collector of Ganjam.
Emphasis was given in the meeting to go for massive plantation along the roads. The strategies were also decided for the formation of Ward Plantation Committees in every ward of Berhampur civic area, which will take care of the saplings planted in the respective wards.
Apart from this, the Collector also informed that the protection of saplings will be handed over to the forest department. Furthermore, it was decided to put up decorative plants around the Ramalingam Tank. The Deputy Commissioner of BeMC, Sourindra Kumar Routray, informed that the ward-wise survey work for massive plantation of saplings will start from Thursday this month and the plantation programme will end by the last week of July.
The meeting was also attended by Berhampur Divisional Forest Officer, Ashish Kumar Behera, sub-Collector of Ganjam, Diganta Routray, Berhampur tehsildar, Dayamaya Padhi, BDA Secretary, Sambit Rout and other departmental officials of BeMC.
