There is a hill near Leh which seems to drag vehicles upwards. This supernatural and mystical ‘Magnetic Hill’ also known as ‘Gravity Slope’ is a prime attraction for tourists. The ‘Hill’ is on the Leh-Kargil-Srinagar national highway, around 30 km from Leh, at a height of 11,000 feet above sea level.
If one travels around Leh, one will observe intriguing sights which will evoke huge interest. One of them is ‘Magnetic Hill’, where gravity takes a backseat.
The ‘Magnetic Hill’ can easily be identified by a yellow signage which states ‘The Phenomenon that defies Gravity’. One has to park the vehicle in a box area marked with a white point on the road. It is the ‘Magnetic Road’ and once the vehicles stop at the indicated spot one can feel a drag of approximately 20km/hr. At the point when parked at the indicated spot, vehicles start moving forward at a speed of almost 20km/hr.
The view from the ‘Magnetic Hill’ is also breathtaking. Toward the east of the ‘Magnetic Hill’ lies the river Sindhu, making the surroundings a photographer’s delight.
