Chanthaburi (Thailand), June 29: Srabani Nanda bagged a bronze medal in the women’s 4×100 metres relay as the Indian eves finished third in the third and final leg of Asian Athletics Grand Prix Series here Monday.
But the day belonged to shot putter Inderjeet Singh and half-miler Jinson Johnson who clinched their third gold in a row as Indians bagged eight medals on the opening day.
Javeline thrower Devinder Singh added another gold as the Indians also won four silver in addition to the bronze at the Chanthaburi Province Stadium here.
With Monday’s gold medals, both Inderjeet and Johnson completed their golden hat-trick as they had bagged the yellow metal in their respective events in the first and second legs of the series conducted in Bangkok (June 22) and Pathumthani (June 25).
Johnson led men’s 800m final all through with a timing of 1:50.56 seconds while Inderjeet produced a best effort of 19.83m to take the top honours. Devinder justified his selection with a gold-medal winning throw of 76.61m in men’s javelin.
Long-jumper Ankit Sharma also completed a hat-trick of silver medals in the GP Series with a best effort of 7.87 metres. Arokia Rajiv and MR Poovamma bagged a silver medal each in men’s and women’s 400m race, clocking 46.07s and 52.60s respectively. Gayathri Govindraj clinched another silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking 13.76s.
