Balasore, July 10: District sessions judge Biranchi Narayan Mohanty Friday granted bail to Binod Nayak, one of the accused in the sensational child sex abuse case in short stay homes here.
The judge granted him bail against a security bond of Rs 20,000 and bailer. Sahadevkhunta police had arrested Binod February 27. According to reports, a girl of Soro area was rescued by Childline authorities in Assam. The girl was later lodged in a short stay home, Bapuji Seva Sadan, at Mitrapur under Nilagiri police station in 2013. During her stay, former manager of the short stay home, Goura Khamari had allegedly abused the girl sexually. As a result, she fled the short stay home but was later rescued. Thereupon, she was accommodated in Santwana Gruha at Balasore in 2014. But, the girl was sexually abused there too.
She alleged manager Binod had abused her. After the matter came to light, NHRC directed the administration to conduct a probe. Two cases were lodged with the local police against the short stay homes. A woman of Bapuji Seva Sadan was arrested while main accused Khamari remained at large. The administration suspended then DCPO Itishree Mohaptra who was dismissed from service recently. Besides, manager of Santwana Swadhar Gruha, Sukanti Parida, and manager of Bapuji Seva Sadan Namita Sahu were also arrested. Goura surrendered before the sessions judge July 3.
