Bhubaneswar, July 11: Srabani Nanda continued with her splendid form to win a gold medal in the women’s 200 metres at the 55th National Inter-State Senior Athletic Championships at Chennai, Saturday.
Srabani clocked 23.92 seconds to secure the first position. Her national camp mates Himasree Roy (24.91 seconds) of West Bengal and Priyanka Panwar(25.10s) of Uttar Pradesh won the silver and bronze medals respectively.
With her gold winning feat, Srabani has created a chance for herself to qualify for the World Athletics Championships at Beijing in August.
Recently Srabani had won three bronze medals, the first of which came in the 200 metres at the Asian Athletics Championships, the second in the 100 metres of the Asian Athletic Grand Prix Leg-I meet and in the women’s 4×100 metres women’s relay event of the Asian Athletics Grand Prix Leg-II meet.
Meanwhile the Orissa women’s 4×100 metres relay team directly qualified for final, which will take place Sunday. Jauna Murmu in the 400 metres women’s heats and Purnima Hembram in heptathlon events will also be seen in action Sunday.
Orissa Athletic Association (OAA) secretary Asirbad Behera congratulated Srabani for her gold winning feat. This is the second medal for Orissa in the tournament. Earlier Sarita Singh had won a silver medal in the hammer event Friday.
