Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday asked the district collectors to keep round the clock vigil on the possible flood situation in Mahanadi delta region following heavy rains in the upper catchment area.
Reviewing the situation through video conference, Patnaik said that the possibility of flood in Mahanadi delta region will rise as 11 lakh cusecs of water will flow in to Mahanadi August 15 morning.
He said it may cause flood in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Nayagarh, Khurdha and Kendrapara districts.
Direction was given to keep a vigil on the river embankments in these districts and intensify patrolling.
The meeting decided to send three more ODRAF teams to Bolangir as the situation is very grim there.
The Chief Minister also directed all departments to remain alert to provide assistance and safety to the affected people.
Meanwhile, the government also deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for relief and rescue operation in the worst hit districts.
It may be mentioned here that seven units of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams along with the Fire Services teams have already been deployed in the seven districts likely to be hit by the possible floods in the wake of heavy rains.
