Jeypore, Dec 19: Three bike-borne miscreants looted gold ornaments from a woman after attacking her husband on the National Highway No-26 near Randapalli village in this block of Koraput district Friday morning.
According to police, the unidentified miscreants waylaid P Ashok Kumar of Bhudan Colony near Randapalli while he along with his wife was going to Jeypore on a bike. They first fired one round at Ashok, but the bullet missed the target.
The highwaymen then fired another round which hit Ashok’s abdomen. Following this, the miscreants looted gold ornaments from his wife and sped away, police said. Ashok was rushed to the sub-divisional hospital here by the locals. He was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital at Koraput as his condition worsened.
Doctors at the headquarters hospital removed the bullet from Ashok’s abdomen and then referred him to a hospital at Visakhapatnam in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh for further treatment. Sadar police are investigating the incident. However, no arrest was made till this report was filed.
