Bhubaneswar: The state government launched the Seventh Economic Census-2019 at the Lok Seva Bhawan here, Monday.
Development Commissioner Suresh Mohapatra launched the Census through a dedicated mobile app. With this, the data collection work started Monday and it will continue for the next three months.
The work will be supervised by National Statistical Office and Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Odisha.
The state-of-the-art mobile app is having advanced ICT tools and applications such as real-time data validation and scrutiny, geo tagging, time stamping, monitoring and supervision using interactive MIS dashboard and finalisation. It also has dissemination of results in record time through statistical reports. It will be a 100 per cent coverage survey, sources said.
The Census will be carried out through a special purpose vehicle called ‘CSC (Common Service Centre) e-Governance Service India Limited’ formed under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Based on the number of households and establishments counted in last Census and on the basis of growth rates in previous Economic Censuses, it is expected that on an all-India basis, approximately 27 crore households and around seven crore establishments would be canvassed in the 7th Economic Census.
Around nine lakh enumerators and three lakh supervisors are expected to be engaged by CSC SPV for this. In Odisha, about 31,000 enumerators and 6,600 supervisors have been engaged by CSC for data collection and supervision work. In addition to this, about 300 officers from the Central and state government have been entrusted with second level supervision work for Odisha.
They will cover all the blocks of the state through the 16,000 CSCs operating in Odisha.
