Bhadrak: A retailer in Bhagabanpur panchayat under Dhamnagar block in Bhadrak district has been issued a show cause notice in connection with the incident where beneficiary Panchali Jena got the PDS rice due to her at a time after tweet made by Santosh Mahapatra.
Collector Gyana Ranjan Das has issued the show cause notice to Shreedhar Sahu, the retailer, asking him to present in person September 4 to present his stand as to why the PDS rice was denied to Panchali Jena.
Santosh had tweeted Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain and Collector, informing them about Panchali’s plight.
One-and-a-half hours after the tweet, Das directed the district supply officer, block supply officer and block development officer to conduct an inspection into the allegation. The retailer on the other hand, trying to diffuse the situation, had given the full quota of rice to Panchali at one go.
The district administration has launched an investigation to find out the circumstances for which a beneficiary had been given her quota of nine months in one go.
After the incident, five officials of the distribution department in the presence of five magistrates had visited the village and verified the cards of the beneficiaries. During the investigation, it was discovered that another beneficiary had been denied her PDS quota.
On the basis of the report, the Collector issued Saturday the show cause notice to the retailer.
